Search Engine Optimization Tips
1. The first thing you should consider
when you are optimizing your website or any web page is
to figure out who your Target Audience is.
This is extremely important because it affects the your
website content and the keywords/keyphrases you chose.
2. Do Keyword Research -
There are several tools out there to use, Google Adwords
Keyword Tool, WordTracker or WordStream. Brainstorming
and focus groups are a great idea! Always think of what
people are likely to type into the search box on the search
engines.
3. Keywords/Keyphrases in Title
Tags - It is very important to include your main
keywords or phrases in your Title tag. The first 60 characters
hold the most weight as far as the search engines are
concerned.
4. Use Meta Descriptions and
Keywords - Meta tags aren't as important as they
used to be, but they still are important. Google still
uses the meta description to create the blurb that displays
under the webpage's title on the search engine results
pages. The right description can help make sure a searcher
goes to your site over others.
5. Use your Keywords in your
domain name. It is also helpful to have your
keywords on your webpages names.
6. Do Not Post Duplicate Content on your Website.
- Do not publish the same article that has already
been indexed on the search engines. It is fine to reference
that article and link to it.
7. Concentrate on Quality Relevant
In-bound Links - Its not about just having a
ton of inbound links. The links to your website must come
from well ranked relevant websites.
8. Always use a 301 Redirect
- If you delete a page from your website or need
to change your website address, do not use javascript
redirect, 302 redirects or have a 404 page not found.
ALWAYS USE A 301 Redirect!
9. Relevant Content -
Keep your content relevant to the terms you optimize for.
Many websites attempt to be found for keywords or keyphrases
that aren't mentioned anywhere in their website content.
10. Update your Content Often - Make
sure you are making regular updates to your website. The
search engines like to find new content to update and
this can ensure your website is crawled often and included
in the index.
